Akshay Kumar's House- The Interior of a Bollywood Star's Home

Akshay Kumar is a well-known celebrity who is familiar to most individuals. Fewer know what his home actually looks like. It is not what most would expect from a Bollywood actor of his level.

No gold ceilings. No over-the-top décor. Just a sea-facing duplex in Juhu that his wife Twinkle Khanna designed herself — and she did not go the typical celebrity route with it.

Who is Akshay Kumar?

Akshay Kumar, aka Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, was born on September 9, 1967 in Amritsar. He was brought up in Delhi before his family moved to Mumbai. His father worked in UNICEF after abandoning the army. Akshay started his career in the early 1990s, gaining popularity with the action film Khiladi. Since then, he has become one of the most profitable actors in Bollywood.

He is famed for his discipline, which includes a strict diet, early mornings, and no late nights. That personality shows up in how his home is run, too. It is not a party house. It is a family home.

Where Is the House?

Juhu, Mumbai. The structure is known as Prime Beach, and it is immediately beside the Juhu Beach with the Arabian Sea facing it. On a sunny day, the horizon out of the property is much extended over the water.

Juhu is counted as one of the most popular residential localities in Mumbai among Bollywood families.

Property Value

The Juhu duplex is currently estimated at Rs 80 crore.  That number is not astonishing considering the location and the position near the sea. The Juhu property rates have been shifting considerably within the past ten years, and Prime Beach is at the peak in the market.

This is not the only property that Akshay possesses.

He purchased a 1,878 sq ft apartment on the 19 th floor of Joy Legend building in Khar West at a cost of Rs 7.8 crore. The family has a Portuguese-style bungalow at Anjuna Beach in Goa, estimated to be 5 crore, which the family visits during the vacation.

He also holds properties in Mauritius and Canada.

Real estate has clearly been something he has invested in consistently over the years — not just one big purchase, but a pattern of smart buys across locations.

Twinkle Khanna’s Role in the Design

Twinkle is a published author, columnist, and interior designer, besides being the wife of Akshay. This house is self-designed, and that is why it has quite a specific point of view.

She did not go for the standard luxury developer look. No imported marble everywhere, no chandeliers in every room. Instead, she built a home around natural textures, personal art, books, and greenery. The result is a home that has character.

Inside the House — Room by Room

Inside the House - Room by Room

The Living Room

The first thing that draws your attention is a pond. No decoration on the corner – a pond in the middle of the living room. It is the center of the room, and it determines the environment of the whole house.

Another thing surrounding it is green and gold couches, wall paintings, and various sculptures at different levels. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designed the glass centre table in the room. A 13-part pendant light system of Klove Studio is installed above and directs the eye upwards.

One full wall is glass, opening directly to the garden outside. The dining area is arranged the same way with a glass wall & a garden view. When you sit down for a meal, you look at the trees and the sky.

A Ganesha idol sits at the entrance. Brown and beige carry through most of the indoor space. Blue shows up in the garden area outside.

The Master Bedroom

Timber finishes, low lighting, a charcoal suede headboard. The room looks out to the backyard. There is a mirror wardrobe with gold-bordered frames that catches the light well. Nothing about the room is loud. It is calm, private, and well put together, the kind of room that does not change much once it is done right.

The Upper Floor

Grey is the main tone upstairs. This floor holds the bedrooms, Twinkle’s home office, a pantry, and a balcony fitted with a daybed. The family uses that balcony often — board games, quiet evenings, casual time together.

The upper floor mixes things that should clash but somehow do not. Italianesque sofas sit beside South Indian silver sculptures and European figurines. Feminist artwork by Shipra Bhattacharya and Rekha Rodwittiya is hung across the walls. It reflects Twinkle’s informed, eclectic, and consistent taste directly in its own way.

The Study Corner

A black bookcase holds books, a typewriter, trophies, and family photographs. A swinging armchair is positioned right next to it. Twinkle has created multiple reading nooks across the home. This is the most defined one. The corner has a collected, personal feel — like it grew over time rather than being arranged for a photo shoot.

Ground Floor Amenities

The ground floor has a large kitchen, a home theatre, and a walk-in wardrobe. The wardrobe is on the lower level, along with the entertainment and utility spaces. All functional, all well-sized.

The Garden

The lawn is large and faces the sea. Outdoor sofas and swings are set up across the space. This is where the family spends a good amount of time — it is not just decorative.

There is a pond in the garden with a Buddha head sculpture rising from the water. It adds a still, quiet quality to the outdoor area.

The family grows their own produce on the property — tomatoes, brinjals, mangoes, sapotas. A mango tree was planted specifically in memory of Rajesh Khanna, Twinkle’s father and one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars.

The property has a history that goes further back. It once belonged to Sumati Morarjee, a freedom fighter and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi visited regularly and used to meditate on the lawns. A stone statue now marks the exact spot. It is still there, in the same garden where the family grows food and the kids play.

Not many homes in Mumbai carry that kind of layered past.

The Goa Vacation Home

Besides the primary family residence in Mumbai, the family owns a vacation home in Anjuna Beach, Goa. It is a Portuguese-type bungalow – more ancient architecture, less uptight. Approximately, this is worth Rs 5 crore. It is the type of place that you visit whenever Mumbai becomes too much. Views of the sea, open plan, less hectic.

Conclusion

The house does not try to announce anything. There are no grand statements, no excess for the sake of it. It is a home that two people clearly thought about — not just decorated. The history of the land, the art on the walls, the garden with its produce and its memories, the reading corners — all of it adds up to something that feels genuine.

That is harder to pull off than it looks.
